About District
Cuddalore District is one of Tamil Nadu’s oldest and historically significant coastal districts. The present district was formed on 30 September 1993 following the bifurcation of the erstwhile South Arcot District, with Cuddalore as its headquarters.
According to historical records, Captain Graham became the first Collector of the erstwhile South Arcot District in 1801. The district has a diversified economy driven by agriculture, fisheries, mining, power generation, and manufacturing. It is renowned for its lignite reserves, fertile agricultural lands, cashew and jackfruit production, and major industrial establishments. Rich in heritage and natural beauty, Cuddalore is home to iconic destinations such as Chidambaram, Pichavaram Mangrove Forest, Silver Beach, and Veeranam Lake.
