CHILD MARRIAGE ACT IMPLEMENTATION :

Child marriage has been an issue in India for a long time because of its roots in traditional cultural and religious practices. It has been a hard battle to fight. Child marriage is also associated with malnutrition, poor health of mothers & high fertility rate and hence over population. These social problems have led to the establishment of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act in 2006. Hence, to promote this Act various schemes have been started by our Government to promote the girl child education and prevent early marriage.

IMPLEMENTATION OF BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO SCHEME IN CUDDALORE DISTRICT :

To put an end to this declining trend Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was started in January 2015 by our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi in the districts which showed a decline in child sex ratio. The 2011 census reveals the extensive and significant decline in CSR recording an all-time low of 918 girls for every 1000 boys. Therefore Government of India selected 100 districts on the basis of low Child Sex Ratio as per Census 2011 covering all States/UTs on a pilot basis covering at least one district in each state. In Tamil Nadu, Cuddalore District has been chosen for implementation of the BBBP scheme as the Child Sex ratio is the lowest in the State.

The BBBP scheme implemented in Cuddalore District from 24th January 2015

GOAL :

To celebrate the Girl Child and enable her education.

OBJECTIVES :

  • To Prevent gender biased sex selective elimination
  • To Ensure survival and protection of the girl child
  • To ensure education of every girl child.
