HIGHWAYS – CONSTRUCTIONS & MAINTENANCE :
Introduction:
Cuddalore district, traditionally has a strong industrial base which contributes substantially to the industrial production of Tamil Nadu. Formation of Road and Bridge infrastructure play a vital role in the development of key sectors of the economy like Industry, Technology, Agriculture etc. Highways Department administers the development road infrastructure in Cuddalore district. The objectives of the Highways Department are to maintain and improve the existing roads, such as State Highways, Major District Roads and Other District Roads in the District under the control of the State Government, and to provide better road connectivity with other places / districts.
Highways Department (Construction & Maintenance) Cuddalore division aims to develop and maintain the Highway network in the district and also ensures road safety and to cope with the future economic development of the state.
In Cuddalore Highways CONSTRUCTIONS & MAINTENANCE Division, the Total Length 1862.957 Km of Government Roads are maintained by this division. The Classification of road are as follows
- State Highways (SH) the total length of Kilometre is 249.00
- Major District Roads (MDR) the total length of Kilometre is 449.00
- Other District Roads (ODR) the total length of Kilometre is 1165.00
Cuddalore Highways Division has 7 Sub – Division Roads. They are maintained by this division.
They are listed as follows:
- Cuddalore sub-division the total length of kilometer 220.645 are maintained.
- Panruti sub-division the total length of kilometer 281.101 are maintained.
- Kurinjipadi sub-division the total length of kilometer 353.359 are maintained.
- Vridhachalam sub-division the total length of kilometer 272.225 are maintained.
- Thittagudi sub-division the total length of kilometer 309.675 are maintained.
- Chidamabram sub-division the total length of kilometer 177.548 are maintained.
- Kattumannarkoil sub-division the total length of kilometer 404 are maintained.
Achievements:
In Last 6 Years from 2011 to 2017 under CRIDP Scheme 836.720 Km Length of Road Works and 23 Bridge Works has been completed in Rs.476.27 Crores.
In the Financial year of 2017-18 under CRIDP Scheme 130.43 Km road works has been completed in Rs. 58.59 Crores and Bridges.
New works taken up 90.00 Crores 50.00 Km 18 works cost of Rs. 13.23 Crores Completed.
2017 – 18 December 2017 Floods Rs. 3.58 Crores Allotted and Completed.
