Objectives
Collection, compilation and dissemination of statistical data from public and private data sources including State Income Estimates, Economic Census, Agricultural Census, Special Surveys, and Monthly Periodical Reports on the State’s economy.
To collect data on how the geographical land is being used under different classifications including irrigated area of different water sources, crop wise irrigated and un-irrigated area.

Agricultural Statistics
Crop Estimation Scheme
Under this scheme, yield estimation of paddy, small millets, groundnut, gingelly, sunflower, sugarcane, cotton, pulses is done by this department under crop cutting experiment of pre-assigned villages with the technical guidance of NSSO. The villages for crop cutting experiment selected by the Department of Economics and Statistics for specified crops and the crop cutting experiment being done by the Agriculture Department and it also being supervised by Agriculture Department, NSSO, Department of Economics and Statistics staffs is selected pre-assigned villages.
Prathan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
Under this scheme, the crop cutting experiment in four/two fields in each of the notified villages/firka in notified crops is being conducted. The yield of crop cutting is being sent at the end of each season in notified units in notified crops to the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai. The yield report is used to the claiming of crop insurance for the farmers.
Crop Estimation Survey on Minor Crops
Under this scheme, yield is measured in selected minor crops (Chillies, Onion, Tapioca) in selected villages. The field is selected by random sampling method.
Improvement of Crop Statistics
Under this scheme, the village Adangal records is being verified at the field level through azmoish in Kharif, Rabi and Summer seasons by this Department. The Adangal page wise total is verified with the village abstract given by the VAO.
Coconut and Arecanut Survey
To estimate the coconut production by Random Sampling Method. The usage of the coconut for various purposes such as personal use, sales level, for oil purpose is being measured through oral enquiry at the time of harvest and one village per Block is selected for this purpose by the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai.
Timely Reporting Scheme
Under this scheme 20% of villages are selected by the Department of Economics and Statistics, every year. In these villages 9 principal crops area is verified with the village records at the end of Kharif, Rabi and Summer seasons and the same is sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai.
Market Surplus
Under this scheme, the paddy yield, trading, stock and personal usage of farmers are being collected in pre-assigned villages of Divisional Assistant Director of Statistics and Block Statistical Inspectors. The Surplus of Paddy left with the Tiller after deducting wages, seed purpose, consumption and sales.
Block Statistical Handbook
Every year the basic details of Block such as Population, Agriculture Census, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Post Offices , etc., are being collected by this department.
Municipal Handbook
Every year the basic details of Municipality such as Population, Agriculture Census, Educational Institutions, Hospitals, Post Offices , etc., are being collected by this department.
District Statistical Handbook
The basic details of the District in specified tables is being collected and published by this department every year.
Housing Statistics (Public Sector)
Under this Scheme, the details of buildings constructed by the State Government and the Local bodies are collected for the finance years. The reports are sent to the Ministry of urban development , government of India through the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai.
Housing Statistics (Private Sector)
Under this Scheme, the details of buildings constructed by the Private individuals is being collected from the Local bodies for every finance year. The reports are sent to the Ministry of urban development , government of India through the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai.
Whole sale Price Index
The wholesale price for the selected commodities is collected from the wholesale dealers / industries. The wholesale price is used for the calculation of wholesale price index.
Market Intelligence Retail & Whole sale Prices
Under this scheme the prices of some commodities are being collected every week (Friday) and sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai. The prices data are used for the calculation of consumer price index.
Rainfall Statistics
The rainfall of the selected Rain gauge Stations in this district is collected and complied every month and sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai. This is used for the calculation of seasonal rainfall data and forecast.
Agriculture Wages
Under this Scheme, agricultural wages of different categories of farm workers are collected in a selected village in a block. This data is used for the fixation of minimum wages.
National Sample Scheme
Under this scheme villages have been selected by Government of India to ascertain the details required for the Government of India every year. In this district villages /urbans have been randomly selected and allotted to the staff of this department will collect the details required and the same sent to the Department of Economics and Statistics, Chennai. The data is used for the formulation of Social welfare schemes.
Fruits and Vegetables and Minor Crops Scheme
Under this Scheme, the yield estimation for the vegetable crops like Onion, tomato, brinjal, and ladies finger are being conducted.
