Cuddalore District known for ancient Chola Temples, Chidambaram Natarajar Temple and also Neyveli mines. The District has 7 Sub-Divisions, 46 Police Stations, 6 AWPSs, 4 Traffic Police Stations and 4 PEWs covering total areas of about 3,678 Square KMs.
The District is well known for the communally sensitive issues prevailing between the Vanniyars and Adi-dravidas, who hold majority in population. The Government machinery always raise up to the occasions to attend to this sensitive issues and ensure normalcy. Issues pertaining to NLC on land acquisition and contract labour engagements are also attended to on priority and effectively. During the year 48 notorious elements were detained under Goondas Act.
Top priority is being given for the prevention and detection of crime which resulted in 78% of detection and 65% of recovery in 2017. All the 46 murder cases of the year 2017 were detected. Out of the 29 Grave property crimes, 18 cases i.e 62% of the cases were detected and properties worth Rs. 50,26,500/- were recovered.
There are no activities of leftwing outfits and religious fundamental organizations in Cuddalore District. All the 4 Sri Lankan camps in the Cuddalore District are regularly checked by Officers of all ranks.
All efforts are being taken to reduce the road accidents by conducting regular traffic awareness programs for students of Schools & Colleges, Divers & Villagers and by booking quality cases under M.V Act. To prevent road fatalities, in the year 2017, 22,670 cases under six major heads and 82,280 cases under without Helmet and Seat Belt were booked besides, 10,149 proposals were sent for cancellation of Driving License of them 3,333 were suspended. Thus, fatal accidents were reduced to 527 in the year 2017 compared to 567 cases in 2016.
The District has common border with Puducherry state and the menace of transportation of IMFL, RS and Pondy arrack is being effectively controlled by the erection of 9 check posts in the border area. Major issues like prohibition and movement of rowdy elements across the state border are taken heed by exchange of information in the monthly border meetings of senior officers. During the year 2017, 3247 cases were booked and 37,291 bottles of IMFL and 54,948 liters of illicit arrack were seized. Totally 169 vehicles have been seized and Rs 19,743 were raised as Revenue to the Government and 18 Bootleggers were detained under Act 14.
Crimes against women and children are attended with utmost care and an Anti Child Trafficking Unit is being formed exclusively to monitor the cases related to child issues. So also SC/ST Act is being implemented effectively and impartially.
